Usability and interactive technology and design take center stage on November 8th as the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI marks World Usability Day 2012. The event is located at the IUPUI Campus Center from 8 AM to 4 PM. The cost is $60 for professionals and $25 for students. Lunch is included. For registration and other important event details, please visit http://indianaworldusabilityday.centerforics.org.
The theme for this year’s World Usability Day is the usability of financial systems. Speakers include Chris Shinkle, director of innovation at Software Engineering Professionals (SEP), Darren Kall, managing partner of Security UX and vice president/partner of Kall Consulting, Kevin Hitchen, co-founder of Localstake, and Jay E. Gillette, professor at Ball State University.
World Usability Day 2012 is presented by the Indiana Chapter of the User eXperience Professionals Association (UXPA) and sponsored by the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI and its master’s, doctoral and graduate certificate programs in Human-Computer Interaction. Other sponsors include the Center for Information and Communication Sciences (CICS) at Ball State University, Pearson Books and Gravity Design.
World Usability Day, founded in 2005 by the worldwide Usability Professionals Association, recognizes that much of today’s technology is often prohibitively complex for the average user. Each year, on the second Thursday of November, more than 200 events in 43 countries are organized to raise awareness of usability among the general public, and to train professionals in the tools and issues central to good usability research, development and practice.
