Illustrator Matt Haley, well-known in the world of comic books for his work with DC (Superman Returns, Batgirl, Birds of Prey), Marvel (The Order, Heroes Reborn: Rebel) and Dark Horse (Ghost), will be a featured guest at VisionFest, a student animation and gaming festival scheduled for October 22-23 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Haley will lead free student workshops focused on sequential art and storytelling.
Most recently, Haley was a cover artist for Ape Entertainment’s Femme Noir, DC Comic’s Tangent: Superman’s Reign and Avatar’s relaunch of Lady Death. Beyond the comic book medium, Haley was lead artist for Rift Software’s Liberty Rocket XBOX game, a contributing illustrator for HarperCollin’s Badass by Ben Thompson, and an artist for both seasons of Sci-Fi Channel’s hit series, “Stan Lee’s Who Wants to be a Superhero?” Additional details on Matt Haley and his work can be found at www.matthaley.com.
There is no cost to attend VisionFest or any of its programs, screenings or workshops. Full program details for VisionFest will soon be available at www.visionfest.org.
Student submissions for competition and screening are still being accepted. There is no fee to enter and all entries must be postmarked by July 28, 2010. Students from around the world compete in three levels of competition (high school, undergraduate and graduate) in the categories of animation and games/interactive arts. All entries meeting entry guidelines receive written critiques from a jury panel of industry experts. Submission instructions are available at www.visionfest.org.
First established in 2005, VisionFest is one of the few animation festivals open only to student work. To date, more than 250 talented students representing nine countries and 56 schools have been part of VisionFest. Its mission is to create an environment of imagination, inspiration and education between emerging student talent and established industry leaders. VisionFest is organized by the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI.
