VisionFest, a juried student animation festival, will make its return to the IUPUI campus October 22nd through 24th. The festival, organized and hosted by the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI since 2005, is now accepting entries for competition and screening. High school, undergraduate and graduate students from around the world are invited to submit their work in the categories of animation and games/interactive arts. All entries must be postmarked by July 28, 2010. Festival details and submission instructions are available at www.visionfest.org.
VisionFest is one of the few animation festivals open only to students. To date, hundreds of talented students representing nine countries and 56 schools have taken part in VisionFest. Its mission is to create an environment of imagination, inspiration and education between emerging student talent and established industry leaders.
Categories are divided into three levels of competition recognizing high school, undergraduate and graduate students. Best-in-Category Award winners receive cash prizes. The festival’s audience members will also vote to determine an overall Audience Choice Award winner in each category.
A jury of animation and gaming industry experts selects winners in each category at every level of competition. All entries meeting submission requirements will receive written critiques from the jury. Past VisionFest jurors include top talent from the most recognizable players in the industry, including Industrial Light & Magic, Walt Disney, Blue Sky Studios and DC Comics. This year’s jury members and speakers will be announced at a later date.
