The IU School of Informatics and Computing celebrated the academic achievements of multiple students during the 2019 Awards ceremony at the recent Capstone Student Project Showcase. SoIC Awards and Scholarship Committee members announced each award winner and their qualifications. These scholarships enable the recipients to continue their education or participate in career enhancing activities.
This is the first year the Make Your Mark Scholarship has been awarded. The scholarship was created by recent School of Informatics and Computing alumnae, Hannah Roper and Mikaylah Gross.
Dean’s Advisory Council Senior Scholarship: Anna Zanoni
One award is granted annually to a student of senior standing currently majoring in Informatics or Media Arts and Science. The student must have a record of innovation, community service or academic excellence and maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5 throughout their SoIC career.
Health Information Management Scholarship: William Lakeman
This award is given to a Health Information Management junior or senior. This person shows promise of continuing to practice their profession in Indiana.
Health Information Technology Scholarship: Saba Ahmed
One award is granted annually to a junior or senior majoring in Informatics, Health Information Management, or Media Arts and Science with an interest in health information technology. A minimum GPA of 3.2 must be maintained.
John R. Gibbs Graduate Fellowship for Innovation: Tabitha (Yi-Shan) Tsai
This award is granted annually either to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student of SOIC. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5. Preference is given to those who have demonstrated or expressed a stated interest in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Jan Ashton Health Information Management Scholarship: William Lakeman
This award is given to a student majoring in Heath information Management who maintains a GPA of 3.2.
Media Arts and Sciences Scholarship: Nicole Selby
The IUPUI Media Arts and Science Scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled in the Media Arts and Science program in the IU School of Informatics and Computing (SOIC) at IUPUI, have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0.
Samantha Hale Travel Scholarship: Korey Bolin and James (Shamus) Haines
This award is granted annually to assist in the costs of the Study Abroad to Greece. Students with experience in digital storytelling, video documentation and editing, 3D modeling, texturing and animation, digital photography, and sound recording and editing are all eligible.
The Make Your Mark Scholarship: Isaac Herndon and Nicole Selby
The Make Your Mark Scholarship is open to full-time students who are sophomores, juniors, or seniors majoring in an undergraduate program in the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI, who have participated in at least one semester of internship, experiential learning, mentoring, or professional development. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Spandana Kommalapati Memorial Scholarship: William Lakeman
This award is given to a Biomedical Informatics or Health Information Management student with a minimum GPA of 3.2.
Tyler R. Stull Memorial Award: Anna Zanoni
One award is granted annually to an undergraduate student of senior standing majoring in Media Arts and Science. The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate significant talent and future career potential in the area of graphics+ or sound design.
Office Works: Tom O’Neil Scholarship: Garin Wurschmidt
One award is granted annually to a full-time undergraduate student currently in the School of Informatics and Computing. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0. Special consideration is given to underrepresented students.
The SoIC Perseverance Scholarship: Nicole Selby
The Perseverance Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in the IU School of Informatics and Computing. The student must be in good standing. The student demonstrates success during a challenging life event—or upon returning to the School of Informatics and Computing after enduring a difficult life event.
Grace Hopper Travel Scholarship
The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is the world’s largest gathering of women technologists. It is produced by AnitaB.org and presented in partnership with ACM. Students who attend have access to networking and hiring opportunities.
Tapia Travel Scholarship
The Tapia conference is the premier venue to acknowledge, promote, and celebrate diversity in computing. The Tapia Conferences are sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery and presented by the Center for Minorities and People with Disabilities in Information Technology.
