The IU School of Informatics and Computing celebrates ten years on the IUPUI and Bloomington campuses. The IUPUI campus is marking the occasion with special events from the School of Informatics and Computing for current students, alumni and the IUPUI communities.
The celebration kicks off with a lawn party scheduled for Thursday, September 23 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. outside the Informatics and Communications Technology Complex. The event is funded by student activity fees courtesy of Informatics Student Government. It features free food, music, games and opportunities to learn about the school’s programs and student groups.
Indiana University formally established the School of Informatics and Computing on both its Bloomington and IUPUI campuses in 2000 – the first schools in the nation dedicated to education and research in informatics. The schools went on to offer the nation’s first Ph.D. program in informatics.
Informatics uniquely integrates computing, social science and information systems design to study how we use technology to communicate, work and engage. That knowledge is then applied to develop innovative IT solutions impacting our communities, science, healthcare, entertainment, law and business.
