The Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI and ThemeVision LLC are pleased to announce that Bianca Garfias has been named recipient of the ThemeVision Scholarship, an award recognizing an outstanding minority student in the School’s Media Arts and Science (MAS) program. Garfias was presented the honor at a recent luncheon hosted by Dennis Stolle, president and founder of ThemeVision LLC. This is the second consecutive year that the company, a provider of trial consulting and courtroom graphics services, has sponsored the scholarship.
Garfias, a junior in the MAS program, is originally from Indianapolis. Prior to her undergraduate studies at Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing, she spent many of her formative years living in Mexico before returning to Indianapolis to attend Ben Davis High School. After graduation, Garfias plans to become a professional web designer and illustrator.
Advisors at the IU School of Informatics and Computing point to Garfias’ dedication and sense of community as key factors in her nomination for the ThemeVision scholarship. “Bianca is a very motivated and passionate student who continually demonstrates academic excellence,” said Sheila Morris-Watson, Assistant Director of Student Services and Undergraduate Advising. “She is always willing to share her knowledge and expertise with others, including serving as a mentor to college-bound high school students.”
Stolle views MAS students like Garfias as a valuable resource for future growth and development. “Students from the MAS program, like Bianca, have the creative, interpretive and technological abilities needed to bring to life the type of work we do at ThemeVision LLC,” said Stolle. “We see too few women and minority students engaged in this type of work and study. With the ThemeVision scholarship, our goal is to support these talented students in Indiana and encourage their future careers in media arts and informatics.” Stolle is a member of the Media Arts and Sciences Advisory Board, a group of media professionals who serve as a creative and best-practices resource for the IU School of Informatics and Computing.
