IUPUI recently was awarded a $525,000, four-year New Skills Ready Network grant through EmployIndy. With funding from JPMorgan Chase, six cities including Indianapolis were chosen to participate in finding better solutions to create access to higher education and ensure students are ready for real-world work leading to high-paying jobs. Locally, EmployIndy chose IUPUI to be a partner.
In this 4th year of the grant, IU Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at IUPUI was chosen as the single largest school sub-grantee. The school has been awarded approximately $50,000. These funds will be used for three projects:
- Evaluate and promote existing micro internship and project-based learning experiences for students to encourage real-world exposure early and throughout their college journey.
- Explore existing industry credentials to prioritize the most valuable ones, find ways to infuse the skills into existing coursework, and provide credit for completing these certifications.
- Review existing Google certification in project management and data analytics to determine ways student may be able to use these courses to fulfill requirement in the Health Information Management program and move toward graduation more quickly.
Amy Maidi, assistant dean of student services at Luddy, said, “Luddy Indianapolis promotes innovation in every way, especially when helping students move quickly toward high-paying careers. These funded projects are an investment in building a bridge between school and industry for any student who trusts us to help them fulfill their dreams. We intend to provide students with more ways to infuse real world skills and experiences into education—and provide college credit for it!”
