Luddy Indianapolis Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) students—Shreyas Patel, Drishti Dinesh Jogadia, Nisarg Hiteshkumar Rajpura, and Aditya Suresh Nair—won big at the 2023 HungerTech challenge! Team “Green Basket”, one of 18 participating groups, won the challenge sponsored by local nonprofit Agrinovus, which netted them a $25,000 prize to commercialize their solution.
In partnership with Elevance Health, the 2023 HungerTech Challenge tasks innovators with creating and implementing tech-enabled business solutions that connect targeted populations experiencing food insecurity to for-profit and not-for-profit food networks.
Winning team GreenBasket developed CropSpots, a click-and-collect model that delivers farmer’s market goods to areas of frequent community engagement instead of homes. With delivery costs not being covered by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), participants can opt-in for group deliveries that allow that cost to be divided and much more manageable.
HCI is the discipline concerned with enhancing the user experience, designing better ways to help people engage with emerging technologies, employing the tools of human-centered design, social computing research, and the Internet of Things.
Andrew Miller, chair of the Department of Human-Centered Computing at Luddy Indianapolis, said, “The Green Basket team’s innovative solution is a perfect example of how Luddy Indianapolis HCI students apply human-centered design skills to address real-world problems.”
