The ISDS Literature Review Subcommittee meets bi-monthly to discuss new journal articles related to biosurveillance. At each meeting, members volunteer to summarize one or more articles. The initial candidate pool consisted of articles summarized by members of the Literature Review Subcommittee between January 2010 and March 2012. A nomination period was open from June 4 -25, 2012. The award committee then reviewed all nominated articles and narrowed the list down to five finalist articles in each award category. The ISDS membership voted to determine the final award winners.
