Scholarly outreach and recruitment were the focus of a trip over winter break for Anthony Faiola, executive associate dean, and Edgar Huang, associate professor of media arts and science.
Faiola visited Russia to explore research opportunities and later met Huang in China to talk to students about what the School of Informatics and Computing has to offer.
Faiola, who lived and taught in Russia during the 1990s, began the trip with visits to Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, and Tallinn, Estonia. While there, he gave several presentations on his current research to Russian faculty and graduate students at Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University and Tallinn University. This was followed by Q&A time to discuss both his research and invitations to prospective students to apply for graduate studies in the School of Informatics and Computing.
Faiola and Huang then met in Hong Kong, where the primary focus of their trip was on recruitment. They traveled to Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) in Guangzhou, China to discuss the 2+2 undergraduate program with faculty and prospective students in the School of Design and Communication and the School of Information Management. In the 2+2 program, SYSU students study for two years in China, then complete their junior and senior years with the School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI. Students who successfully complete their courses of study then receive a bachelor’s degree in media arts and science from Indiana University and SYSU.
