Over the past two academic semesters, Clayton Nicholas, director of industry partnerships at the IU Innovation and Commercialization Office, and Lou Lenzi, adjunct professor of practice in the Department of Human-Centered Computing at Luddy Indianapolis, have been leading students from four schools across two IU campuses in an experiential learning project to study the issue of food insecurity in Marion County. With sponsorship from the Toyota Mobility Foundation and the Initiative for Electrified and Autonomous Mobility (IEAM), the student teams have worked with five area pantries to optimize their operations.
The multidisciplinary teams are trained in problem solving processes including Design Thinking and Lean Six Sigma. This initiative will continue for another two years as students pass on their learnings and actions to the next team, contributing to a better and healthier community.
Luddy Indianapolis students participating thus far include Human-Computer Interaction students Anamitra Jana, Radhika Bhoj, and Mansi Kasar.
