The IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI is pleased to announce its Colloquia for spring 2010. Colloquia provide IUPUI students, faculty and staff the opportunity to hear from leading researchers in the dynamic fields of informatics, media arts, and the health and life sciences. Presentations begin January 22, 2010 with speaker Eli Blevis, Ph.D., and his lecture titled, “Collaborative competitive challenge-based studio learning (C3SL) in the context of HCI and HCC.”
Blevis is an Associate Professor of Informatics in the Human-Computer Interaction Design program at the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing and Computing in Bloomington. Blevis has created a novel pedagogical paradigm for human-computer interaction (HCI) and human-centered computing (HCC) called collaborative competitive challenge-based studio learning (C3SL). This new paradigm presents learners with design research and concept challenges based on social issues. These social issues manifest as individual, collaborative and competitive activities involving public presentation and critique. This paradigm hopes to foster greater human-centrism, social values and ethics in the research and practice of HCC and HCI.
Lectures will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in room 252 of the Informatics and Communications Technology Complex (IT) located at 535 West Michigan Street in Indianapolis, unless otherwise noted. There is no cost of admission and all lectures are open to the public. No reservations are necessary. Location and time are subject to change, so please visit https://luddy.indianapolis.iu.edu/colloquia for the most current schedule of distinguished speakers and topics, as well as video of past presentations.
