Five Luddy Indianapolis students were selected by IUPUI this year for Top 100, three in the Department of Human-Centered Computing and two in the Department of BioHealth Informatics. Top 100 recognizes student demonstration of excellence in three categories—academic excellence, campus leadership, and community engagement.
Luddy Indianapolis Executive Associate Dean Davide Bolchini said, “We are very proud of the exemplary achievements of these students, who, by winning this very selective and prestigious recognition, represent the best of the best on our campus. Their perseverance and commitment to academic excellence, leadership on campus, and community engagement demonstrated here at Luddy will take them far to make impactful contributions in their profession.”
Sahiti Somalraju
Somalraju graduated this May, receiving her B.S. degree in Biomedical Informatics with a minor in Interior Design Technology. Additionally, she is enrolled in the Accelerated 4+1 program to earn a Master’s in Bioinformatics by 2025. She has been the President of the Biomedical Informatics Club, a member of ALDPES, an undergraduate Student Ambassador for Luddy Indianapolis, and a research assistant at the Janga Research Lab.
“Following graduation, I’m considering advancing my academic journey by pursuing a PhD in Bioinformatics. Afterwards, I want to transition into an industry role within the biotechnology sector where I can apply my expertise in bioinformatics to contribute to research initiatives aimed at improving human health outcomes. Alongside this professional path, I have a passion for interior design and real estate, which I plan to explore as a side venture,” Somalraju said.
Ibrahim Ahmad
Ahmad majored in Informatics, with two minors, one in Game Design and Development, and the other in Classical Studies. He graduated in December 2023.
“I’m really proud of being the Vice President of Bridges 2022-2023. Bridges is all about creating a warm and welcoming space for international students. We organize events and activities to help them feel at home and part of our campus community. It’s so important because being in a foreign country can be overwhelming, and I wanted to make sure they know they’re welcome here,” Ahmad said.
Apart from that, Ahmad was involved in student clubs MESA, Coptic Club, Cru, and more. “They’re a great way to pursue my interests outside of class. Whether it’s a cultural club, a professional organization, or something related to my hobbies, I’ve found that these clubs help me connect with like-minded people and develop my leadership skills,” he said.
Ahmad is working to start his own game company and possibly growing it into a movie company someday.
