The IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI now offers a Digital Humanities minor for undergraduates pursuing bachelor’s degrees. The minor is offered jointly by the IU School of Liberal Arts, the IU School of Informatics and Computing, and the Herron School of Art and Design.
Students will learn to work with large datasets, perform analysis, and employ visual communication and informatics in the arts, social sciences, and humanities. The coursework builds an understanding of technology from historical and cultural perspectives and lets students with a passion for arts and humanities apply new methods from data science, media arts, and technology to their work.
“The School of Informatics and Computing has made a significant investment in lab space, equipment, and software needed to teach, create, and research in this area. The Digital Humanities minor provides the opportunity to share these valuable resources with students throughout our campus,” said Professor Andrea Copeland, interim chair of the Department of Library and Information Science.
Museum curator, digital archivist, and digital marketer are among the career options the minor presents to students, who can combine the coursework with studies in business, education, law, public policy, journalism, and any field that employs digital technology.
The Digital Humanities minor is available to IUPUI students in any major. Students can complete the declaration form to declare the minor. Contact a history advisor or informatics advisor for more information.
