The Informatics Diversity-Enhanced Workforce (iDEW) Program administered by the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI has received a $50K gift from Care Institute Group, Inc. This brings their total giving to iDEW to $150,000 over the four-year program pilot.
In a statement made by the organization, Care Institute Group, Inc. “supports the goals and operations of non-profit organizations in the areas of healthcare, the arts and education. By supporting iDEW’s initiative to provide IT career opportunities for underrepresented students in our community, we hope to make a brighter future for the next generation. The hands on experience the program provides gives the youth in our community opportunities they may not have realized possible, thereby helping them maximize their potential and believe that college is attainable. Care Institute Group Inc. is proud to support the IU School of Informatics and Computing and its initiative to address the diversity gap in the IT Sector.”
“We have grown the iDEW program in size and scope over the last three and a half years, from 70 students in 3 schools at the outstart to over 600 students in 8 schools today,” said Mathew J. Palakal, senior executive associate dean of the School of Informatics and Computing and iDEW program director. “This contribution from the Care Institute Group will allow us to continue expanding the opportunities iDEW offers to more students and schools.”
iDEW is a workforce-development initiative launched by the school in collaboration with the Indiana community, business partners and high schools to address the diversity gap in next-generation tech talent. The program provides transformative learning through year-round daily group and project-based courses in which underserved students use information technology to solve real-world problems. These hands-on experiences help prepare them for college and lucrative, in-demand careers. To date, 94 percent of iDEW graduates are in college or college-bound; 68 percent are pursuing STEM degrees.
Care Institute Group, Inc. provides financial support through donations and grants in a manner that will further the goals and operations of charitable 501 (c)(3) organizations serving principally the areas of health care with special emphasis on issues of the aged and infirm, cultural and educational opportunities and benefits, and education and physical and mental health of children.
