Animation for complex science concepts, digital learning activities, and 3-D printing and modeling techniques were among the technologies presented to teachers from Indiana high schools at the second annual free Teacher Summit held at the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI on February 26.
“Teachers understand the positive impact the use of technology can have in the classroom,” says Vicki Daugherty, program manager and diversity coordinator at the School of Informatics and Computing. “The free Teacher Summit is a great opportunity to gain insight first-hand from our faculty who specialize in these areas.”
Noblesville High School chemistry teacher Ryan Bruick called the summit a “vacation in learning.”
Teachers learned new ways to engage students in the classroom through demonstrations and hands-on technology sessions taught by School of Informatics and Computing faculty from the Informatics and Media Arts and Science programs in the Human-Centered Computing department.
“It is the best day of professional development I’ve invested in in years,” Bruick says. “The lesson design, pacing, and rigor were ideal.”
Teachers also toured the Advanced Visualization Lab, Virtual Reality Theater, and Media Arts Research and Learning Arcade.
