INFO-H 570 Experience Design for Tangible and Embodied Systems

Description
This course covers the user experience design of systems and installations that respond to hand gestures, body movements, and tangible interaction. It introduces theories of embodiment and their practical application. The course includes lectures, discussions on recent literature, and a project to design and implement a tangible or gestural system.
Learning Outcomes
- Illustrate how the vision of tangible and embodied interaction (TEI) is articulated and continually reinterpreted by a community of researchers and practitioners.
- Adapt traditional HCI methods (e.g., requirements gathering, prototyping, evaluation) to TEI contexts.
- Critique and present theoretical, design, and technical texts that reflect diverse disciplinary approaches.
- Evaluate a body of research to identify past contributions and areas with the potential for novel contributions.
- Research, design, and develop a TEI user interfaces, employing TEI design and evaluation methods.
- Evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, and applicability of TEI in a variety of contexts.
- Communicate about TEI in both written and oral form to diverse audiences.
