Graduate students Joan Savage and Jay Hardin, under the guidance of Media Arts and Science faculty Dr. Joseph Defazio, have designed a new game series being featured on the Indiana State Museum’s website. The games are an interactive element of the Museum’s exhibition “Amazing Maize: The Science, History and Culture of Corn.” The games are being promoted through the Museum’s Twitter and Facebook sites.
Educational material about corn appears as the player moves through a corn-maze game. Mid-point in game, players are taken to a matching game where they select images of the types of corn available the United States. Savage and Hardin used the skills gained in the Media Arts and Science program to produce a “real world” product while serving the State Museum. The “Amazing Maize” exhibit traces the 10,000 year genetic evolution of corn. It highlights the scientific, economic and cultural significance of corn on daily life, past and present.
