The Department of Human-Centered Computing at the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI has become a member of the prestigious Human-Computer Interaction Consortium (HCIC), a group of leading academic, governmental, and industrial organizations who develop and promote research at the forefront of the discipline of human-computer interaction (HCI).
“We are very proud to join the ranks of top-tier academic institutions and industry partners who shape the direction of the HCI field. I consider this milestone to be an important national recognition of the caliber of the research of our faculty and the growing visibility of our department in the academic discipline of HCI,” said Professor and Human-Centered Computing Department Chair Davide Bolchini.
Membership in the consortium is bestowed by a majority vote of the current members, which currently include 30 institutions. Participating in the activities of the consortium opens unparalleled opportunities for HCI faculty and students to network and converse with research and industry leaders in the field.
The members of the consortium meet annually to discuss topics at the forefront of the research in HCI. Activities include ample mentoring opportunities for Ph.D. students and faculty from senior colleagues.
School of Informatics and Computing Professor Andrew Miller will serve as the department representative on the HCIC board of governors.
Founded in 1988, the HCIC contributes to the scientific foundation of HCI, as well as to promoting collaborative research, education, training, technology transfer, and information exchange between academia and industry.
