Karl MacDorman, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Human-Computer Interaction at the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI, was interviewed for an April 2 article for Innovation News Daily on MSNBC.com. MacDorman discusses his research on the “uncanny valley” and his development of an interactive experiment that makes volunteers talk with either real actors or their digital doubles. “We predict that uncanniness will interfere with participants’ normal empathetic response within this scenario,” MacDorman says in the article. “This will help us understand how the uncanny valley influences emotional empathy during an interaction.”
