Jake Chen, assistant professor, IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI, was recently recognized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) as the recipient of the 2009 Senior Member. According to ACM, the senior member grade is an award that “recognizes those ACM members with at least 10 years of professional experience and 5 years of continuous Professional Membership who have demonstrated performance that sets them apart from their peers.”
Chen has been an ACM student member since 1998, and an ACM member since 2002. ACM is the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society. It delivers resources that advance computing as a science and a profession. ACM provides the computing field’s premier Digital Library and serves its members and the computing profession with leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources.
Prof. Chen has also been an Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Senior Member since 2004. His research involved developing and applying computational systems biology techniques to solving challenging genome medicine problems. He is currently the principle investigator of the Discovery Informatics and Computing Laboratory and director of the IUPUI Signature Center Indiana Center for Systems Biology and Personalized Medicine.
Prof. Chen is also the subject of this month’s IUPUI Faculty Spotlight. His research is detailed in an article entitled Systems Biology Research Holds Promise for Tailoring Highly Precise Treatment Regiment for Complex Diseases. Full details are available here.
