The local SIGGRAPH chapter at IUPUI recently co-hosted a technology exhibition and showcase of computer graphics projects created by IUPUI students. Sponsor of the event was the Purdue University School of Technology’s computer graphics and technology department at IUPUI. SIGGRAPH is the leading international organization dedicated to the advancement of computer graphics.
The four-hour exhibit was designed to showcase student work to local and national digital technology firms, primarily those involved with 3D animation work. Four national and regional speakers were in attendance, including two graduates of the Media Arts and Science (MAS) program at the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI, Frank Tai and Leon Nowlin.
Tai and Nowlin were on hand to share what their industry experiences have been like, and to let future grads know what digital firms are looking for in potential employees. Tai is just completing a specialized internship program at Pixar, and is joining the leading 3D animation film studio as a fulltime designer this summer. Nowlin is employed by Encore Hollywood, working on a variety of television and Web-related projects.
Those in attendance had the opportunity to have digital portfolios reviewed by industry experts, among them Clint Koch and Brian Ludwick, instructors in the MAS program at IUPUI.
Informatics alum John Blue provided photos from the event. More information about SIGGRAPH at IUPUI is available here.
