Mother’s Day will once again carry special significance for IUPUI graduates and their families, including 179 newly minted grads of the IU School of Informatics and Computing. IUPUI commencement exercises will be held Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10 at 10:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. in Halls A-B-C of the Indiana Convention Center downtown. The School of Informatics and Computing will participate in the 10:00 A.M. ceremony.
Friday, May 8 the Graduation and Honors Dinner will be held at Meridian Hills Country Club, 5:30 P.M. (reservations required, now closed). Several awards will be presented, and attendees will hear remarks from Executive Associate Dean Anthony Faiola, IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI, and informatics alum John Blue.
"I want to congratulate our graduates on their outstanding accomplishments and wish them the very best as they move on to the next phase of their professional lives," said Ex. Assoc. Dean Faiola. "These students have successfully navigated rigorous academic curricula in a variety of informatics disciplines, and share the prospect of soon establishing rewarding careers."
Sunday, May 10 graduating students will gather at the convention center for commencement exercises. IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz will preside, with Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie and Purdue University President France A. Córdova conferring degrees for their respective schools.
Carrying the Informatics academic banner during the IUPUI commencement processional will be Daphne Lynn Pell, a senior in the Health Information Administration program, who was recently named the School’s 2009 IUPUI Chancellor’s Scholar Award recipient.
Immediately following commencement will be the School’s graduation ceremony in the Wabash Ballroom at the Indiana Convention Center at 11:45 A.M. Dean Bobby Schnabel will offer remarks, undergraduates will receive their diplomas, and Master’s degree candidates will participate in the traditional academic hooding ceremony.
The School will confer 179 degrees in the following disciplines: AS in Media Arts and Technology – 1, BS Informatics – 19, BS Media Arts and Science – 76, BS Health Information Administration – 29, MS Bioinformatics – 13, MS Chemical Informatics – 1, MS Health Informatics – 22, MS Human Computer Interaction – 9, MS Media Arts and Science – 9.
Since the School’s founding in 2000, 865 degrees have been earned by informatics students at IUPUI.
