Joseph Defazio, Ph.D., associate professor at the School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI, has authored a comprehensive e-textbook on digital media titled Foundations of Media Arts and Science.
The textbook is designed to give beginning students a solid foundation in the design and practice of media arts. Its fourteen units cover new media’s history and future, media theory, design technology, areas of focus in the field, copyright and intellectual property. The text also includes lessons and online assignments to engage students in interactive learning.
Foundations of Media Arts and Science is published by and available through Kendall Hunt/Great River Technologies.
Joseph Defazio joined the School of Informatics and Computing in 2002. An accomplished composer and musician, his research is in the area of instructional design, e-Learning, media design and development and music technology. He has won several awards for excellence in teaching and has produced several multimedia projects that have been displayed throughout Indianapolis. Defazio holds a Ph.D. in instructional systems technology, an M.S. in applied computer technology and a B.A. in music performance.
