What do Whittle Sweets, Conscious Diapers, and the Boone County Democratic Party, have in common?
All of these and more were featured the Luddy Indianapolis fall 2022 Capstone senior showcase and N420 projects. And the subject matter and media applications were as varied as the industry sponsors the students partnered with or interned for.
“Our community and corporate partners demand students that excel both in technical and creative capacities. More importantly, they look to upcoming graduates to also understand and appreciate the impact and strategy their skills can have in product development, research, and content creation.”, said Zebulun Wood, co-director of the Media Arts and Science (MAS) degree program and N420 instructor. “Our projects partnerships and client collaborators needs’ mirror the ubiquity and demand for our students’ skillsets locally, nationally, and abroad. We are always excited to partner and take on new challenges that leverage Luddy’s killer technology, facilities, and faculty expertise. Let’s create! ”
In addition, graduate students’ projects were on display, ranging from developing a mobile app for Huntington National Bank to health informatics research for Hands in Autism.
Gary Schwebach, associate director of the Biomedical Informatics degree program and mentor for many of the Health Informatics graduate students, said, “The Capstone presentation gives our Biohealth Informatics students the opportunity to display what they have done while applying their academic studies in a working environment. This provides our partners with solid evidence of their skills that they can put to work improving the condition of their future employers. The students get the chance to shine and our partners get access to a pool of job ready candidates.”
Shall we play a game?
Would you play Nine-Tail Fox, Xeria the Last Avian, Xoria, or Alien Breakout? How about Night’s Shade, Do No Harm or Friendly Façade games?
Nine-Tail Fox, created by MAS student Yutsuki Liu is based on a Chinese folktale. Liu brought it to life in a game that invited players to capture the tails through a series of challenges. Other games involved creatures with a darker side.
Time for screen time
Capstone students developed and produced The Great Nugget Caper, We Are Veterans, A Moment for Love, Accessing Safe Abortion, and Quartz Quest videos.
Just like on the big screen, these short documentary or animated films explored topics ranging from A to Z. Alexander Young’s 2D animation brought his original characters to life in Quartz Quest.
Unique and varied projects
Projects like Search and Rescue, Butterflies at the Zoo (presented by Lauren Fasig, pictured below), Illegal Wildlife Trade, Tunnels and Trolls, the State of Aging Report, and Gundam Model Kits illustrate our students’ imaginations, skills, and talents.
At the end of the evening, MAS faculty Mathew Powers emceed the Capstone Awards, celebrating all the students and the culmination of their hard work.
The Spring 2023 Capstone event will be held April 28, beginning at 4 PM in the ICTC Building on the IUPUI campus. It is free and open to the public.
