The National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity program through IU Indianapolis

IU Indianapolis is an institutional member of the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD). The Center is an independent professional development, training, and mentoring community of faculty, postdocs, and graduate students from over 450 colleges and universities. In addition to the resources available to you as an institutional member, the Center also offers professional development training and intensive mentoring programs.

KEEP: Key Efforts to Ensure Promotion

The Office of Academic Affairs recognizes that an institution’s ability to retain and advance diverse faculty talent is critical to its success. The KEEP program is designed to supplement efforts already undertaken within academic units to support tenured/tenure-track faculty on their path toward promotion and tenure. The program provides funding for one to two faculty development initiatives identified by the faculty in consultation with their chair, in addition to registration for either the fall or spring semester offering of the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity’s (NCFDD) Faculty Success Program (FSP). Other initiatives may include professional/leadership development workshops, coaching/mentoring initiatives, and national networking conferences.

Enhancing Mentoring Program with Opportunities for Ways to Excel in Research (EMPOWER)

EMPOWER is a unique opportunity for IU Indianapolis tenure-track faculty that combines elements of faculty professional development with research development strategies to support them in attaining career success. The goal of EMPOWER is to assist historically underrepresented faculty become successful in sponsored research and scholarly activity and achieve significant professional growth and advancement.

Faculty Inclusive Excellent Grants

The Faculty Inclusive Excellence program awards up to 10 grants per academic year of up to $1,000 in support of faculty engaged in work that strengthens our ongoing commitment to creating a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable campus environment. Proposed activities that prioritize equity and inclusion as related to historically marginalized or minoritized communities in higher education (defined by race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, ability status, and veteran status) include but are not limited to the following: Projects/research, Events, Mentoring, Trainings/workshops, Curricular transformation, Professional development, Conference presentation, and Recruitment efforts.
