Luddy Career Champions Program

Overview

The Luddy Career Champions Program is a new initiative at the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering in Indianapolis designed to expand career support for Luddy Indianapolis students. Faculty and non-career services staff often play a critical role in guiding students on their career paths. Through a half-day training, participants gain essential knowledge about career readiness and resources, allowing them to provide informed guidance and foster a culture of career support throughout the Luddy community.

Why it matters

The survey on which Faculty Attitudes and Behaviors: The Integration of Career Readiness Into the Curriculum is based found 92% of faculty provided career guidance to students in the past year. Yet only 70% referred students to the career center, highlighting a gap in cross-campus support. Additionally, only 52% felt very comfortable advising students within their own discipline. This is critical because, as shown by a 2024 NCES report, 73% of students consider job placement rates significant when choosing a college. The Luddy Career Champions Program addresses these gaps by building a network of trained faculty and staff who can confidently support student career success.

Program goals

  • Provide faculty and staff with up-to-date career data, trends, and resources.
  • Promote the Career Everywhere philosophy, enabling all Luddy community members to engage in meaningful career conversations.
  • Enhance students’ career outcomes through collaborative efforts across Luddy Indianapolis.
