Internal Funding Information and Guidelines
Last updated: January 2024
IU internal grants are designed to help faculty’s external grant applications. Details of IU internal funding opportunities can be found at: https://research.iu.edu/funding-proposals/funding/opportunities/index.html
IU Internal Funding
Please pay attention to the following opportunities:
- BRIDGE grant: This is for support between external grant cycles. It requires 30% matching. The ADR office will work with your department chair to help with the matching if you receive a BRIDGE grant.
- FRSP-Seed Funding (FRSP-SF) and FRSP-External Resubmission (FRSP-ER): These two programs replace the old IUPUI’s RSFG program. It now focuses on only two situations: resubmission and new research. For people who were expecting RSFG support, please apply to one of these.
- Research Equipment Fund (IU-REF): This is for major equipment. There are various types of cost-sharing requirements. So, if you plan to apply, please discuss cost-sharing with the Associate Dean for Research in advance.
Luddy-Indianapolis ADR office funding
If you have needs that are critical for your research program, but cannot be met by IU’s internal funding mechanism, you are encouraged to reach out to the ADR. In some situations, the ADR office may be able to help with small funds, including (but not limited to):
- New collaborations that are still at an exploratory stage.
- Exploring a new research direction. This is typically for mid-career faculty who are considering a change (or expansion) of research direction.
- Planning a major external submission. This is primarily for support on logistics, data / result collection, documentation, and perhaps travel for multi-school, multi-institutional proposals.
