Research Award for Tenured or Tenure-Track Faculty
Purpose
The purpose of this award is honor a full-time faculty member for exemplary performance in the area of research in Luddy-Indy based on publications, external grant support and other evidence of research scholarship and its impact.
The award is a one-time amount of $1,000, typically paid in the month following the committee decision, or shortly thereafter. This amount is subject to change depending upon University policies and procedures, or upon availability of funding.
Eligibility
Nominees must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Has been a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty member with Luddy-Indy for at least 3 years.
- Has not received the research award in the past 3 years.
- Can demonstrate a record of cumulative excellence in the area of research over the past 3 years.
Procedure
- Self-nominations are encouraged. Nominations by colleagues familiar with the nominee’s work are also welcome.
- A brief will be prepared for each nominee. This brief will be forwarded to the Awards and Scholarships Committee by the individual making the nomination. A maximum of five pages per nomination brief, 12 point font, may be presented. An additional 2 pages of testimony and or/supporting documentation may be attached to the brief. If more than seven pages are received, the nomination will be rejected. It is up to the individual submitting the nominating brief to ensure that procedures are followed.
- Do not submit a FULL copy of the nominee’s CV as part of the nomination materials. A truncated CV detailing no more than last 3 years is acceptable.
Review Committee
To properly evaluate these nominations, the Committee will assemble a panel of at least three tenured or tenure-track faculty with research expertise from each department. This panel will determine the year’s award winner, if any. Panel members may be drawn from Committee, or may be non-members invited to serve on the evaluation panel for this purpose. Invitations to non-members will be issued by the Committee chair after consultation with the departmental chairs and faculty council president.
The nomination brief should include the following:
- Name of individual submitting nomination;
- Name and rank of nominee;
- A narrative describing the significance of the nominee’s research over the past 3 years, including evidence of its impact on the nominee’s discipline, department, school, university, and wider community. This evidence can include:
- Publications arising from this research
- Grants in support of this research
- Documentation of awards or honors resulting from this research
- Documentation of mentoring and teaching arising from this research
- Documentation of other activities or impacts in the profession, campus or wider community resulting from this research
- Evaluations of this research by internal or external evaluations peers or partners
- Impact should be addressed in the personal statement
