Student Performance Data

The Program Review and Assessment Committee (PRAC) monitors assessments of student learning outcomes. Programs typically submit a report every three years. The Department of Library and Information Science is responsible for reporting on the Data Science BS and the Library and Information Science MLIS. Activities of the committee are supported by the Office of the Provost.

• The Data Science BS will report for the first time for 2025-2026.
• The Library and Information Science MLIS has already reported for 2018-2019, 2021-2022, and 2024-2025. It next reports in 2027-28.

The MLIS PRAC reports from 2018–2019, 2021–2022, and 2024–2025 document the ongoing assessment and development of Indiana University’s Master of Library and Information Science program. Early assessments relied primarily on direct measures from student ePortfolios to evaluate mastery of program goals aligned with American Library Association competencies. Indirect measures included surveys, advisory board feedback, faculty committees, task forces, and town halls. Over time, the department included data-driven direct assessment methods using Canvas assignment mapping. The reports demonstrate continuous curriculum improvement, including the creation of new courses and specializations, expanded technology training, increased attention to equity and social justice in the curriculum, and stronger career preparation opportunities. By the most recent report, the program emphasizes technology integration, AI literacy, and equitable information practices, aligning its curriculum and assessment strategies with evolving professional expectations and upcoming accreditation requirements.

All IU Indy School of Luddy graduates report their post-graduation outcomes to reveal employment or continuing education plans. This information is necessary for IU Indy and the School of Luddy to report to accrediting bodies about the status of our students. These results also help other students better understand the opportunities available to them after graduation. The First Destination Survey (FDS) follows National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) guidelines for collecting post-graduation outcomes. According to the most recent First Destination Survey, 71.7% of 2023 LIS graduates are working full time with another 18.1% working part-time. Response rate: 98.6% of 140 graduates.
