The Generalist Specialization provides a broad foundation in library and information science while allowing students maximum flexibility to tailor the degree to their individual interests and professional goals. Students develop core competencies in information sources and services, collection development and management, organization and representation of information, research and evaluation, management, and information technologies.
With 18 credit hours of open electives, students can explore multiple areas of library and information science or build an individualized course of study that reflects their career goals. This flexibility makes the Generalist Specialization well suited for students whose interests span multiple areas of the information professions or who prefer to develop a broad range of knowledge and skills rather than focus on a single area of specialization.
